An Informed Fish-culture Experiment

It is expounded as an experiment because it is done in Tintap, very far away from where it has been successfully tried and popularised - popularised as a dining table dish!

Before and until now, Ikan Kaloi has always been referred to as Ikan Perhiasan or ornamental fish. But fish breeders in some parts of Indonesia must have thought of some practical economical bright ideas. This bright economic idea is slowly spread throughout the region by way of Courses, Seminars and Food Promotions. By way of official Socio-economic Exports, so to say, this bright ideas have reached the shore

of Sabah, Malaysia. The core of this idea is spread to a number of small and medium scale fish farm breeders by one of the pioneers of this spread, a high ranking officer of the Department of Fisheries, Sabah, Encik Samy.

Tintap Freshwater Fish Farm is responding to this Experiment by isolating the Kaloi from the other types of fish from a pond, making sure that the ratio number of female to male is reasonably acceptable even by sheer simple reckoning. The males have hump heads while the females are prettier. They can also be differentiated by the length of their under-body fins. When they are grown-up already, so to speak, ready to mate, they could be given the facilities of a supply of grass - long grass - for them to make their nests. If it was possible, they could even be helped with the supply of a few galanjang-like pupuuvan for them to put in their grass nests. The next thing expected of them is to lay their fertilised eggs, attaching them to the clumped grass. It will then be wise for the breeders and tenderers to carefully lift the grass clumps together with the attached eggs and transfer them onto another containers, the like of big basins, so as to allow the eggs to hatch at ease and without any undue disturbances. The next expected development would be the appearance of wriggles - the sign of life in the Ikan
Kaloi fries. They would stay in that hatcheries for quite a while before they go to their own pond.

The grown Kaloi can be marketed as life ornamental fish, life or still wet fish for food or dish-prepared and ready eateries serving. They can be prepared in plain curry fish, sweet-sour fish with generous lemak, asam-pedas fish or simply fish-stew in sweet beans and tamarind. Another serving suggestion is to grill the fish and to be taken with a variety of chilli and sour sauce. All the suggested preparations are best taken with rice.d

Daton Ngawi' Freshwater Fishfarm at Kampung Tintap will organise its first-ever Kaloi Dish promotion comes early 2013.

It is only too wise to insert an addendum of disclaimer especially when such an experiment has not been run yet. Those outcome of the yet to be launched experiments as a whole are purely anticipations and fantasies of an eager mind which wish to do some progressions in such field. Any unworkable segments of such narratives are purely wishful thinking.
